8th Grade MAP testing – On Tuesday, May 2nd all 8th graders that have not completed MAP testing will report to the computer lab after 3rd period and will test until finished. If you have not finished by your regular lunch time, you will go to lunch and return to the computer lab to finish testing. You are responsible for missed work.

7th Grade MAP testing – On Thursday, May 4th all 7th graders that have not completed MAP testing will report to the computer lab after 3rd period and will test until you are finished. If you have not finished by your regular lunch time, you will go to lunch and return to the computer lab to finish testing. You are responsible for missed work.

The informational meeting for those signed up for this summer’s Washington D.C. trip will be held on Monday, May 8th at 7:00 at the junior high. Trip materials will be distributed at this time. We will also go over a preliminary itinerary and packing list. Parents and students are both encouraged to attend. If you are unable to attend, please contact Ms. Larsen.

Elite Mile—Tuesday May 2nd (weather permitting) during advisor. Qualifications: Mile time of 6:15 or lower for boys, 7:00 or lower for girls.

Elite Pacer—Friday April 28th during advisor. Qualifications: Pacer score of 80 or higher for girls, 90 or higher for boys

The cafeteria will be under construction starting on Monday through the rest of the year. The choices will be limited to the main dish and a sandwich.

Art club will meet on Tuesday May 2nd. If you are interested please sign up outside the art room.

2017-18 PVJH Robotics Application Form is an online registration only. Please stop in the Main Office to get the link to sign up. Deadline is May 15th.

7th grade art students need to take their Spartan heads home as soon as possible. Last day will be Friday May 12th.

Girls who are between the ages of 12-15 and love the outdoors, have an opportunity to attend Iowa’s Outdoor Journey for Girls at Dolliver State Park in June, Hickory Hills County Park in July, or Clover Woods Camp in August. This is a three day/two night camp aimed at introducing outdoor skills to girls in a supportive, learning environment where they have the opportunity to try: Canoeing & learn water safety, Basic orienteering, Fish & wildlife identification, Archery, Firearm safety & basic shooting, Camping & outdoor survival, Game care, Fishing & preparing the catch, Hunter education certification

Students who will be 14 years old by July 1st have a job opportunity with Mycogen Seeds in Davenport. Information and applications are available in the cafeteria.

Are you interested in a health career? St Ambrose University is offering their 10th annual Health Career Adventure Camp for students entering 7th and 8th grade in the fall. The camp will be offered the week of July 17th. Registration is due by June 30. Registration material and information is available in the JH Counseling Office. Priority will be given to those students who have not previously attended.

High School BASEBALL Tryouts will be held May 1st-3rd from 4:00-6:00pm for any 8th graders interested in trying out for the high school teams.

High School SOFTBALL tryouts will be held May 8th-10th from 4:30-6:00pm for any 8th grade girls interested in trying out for the high school teams.

There will be open mat sessions for wrestlers on Monday and Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 at the PVHS wrestling room.

Do you love comparing books and movies? Do you love snacking and munching? Do you enjoy reading inspirational and uplifting stories? The Book Munchers next book is Heaven Is For Real and will meet on Thursday, May 11th at 3:15 in Room 51. Bring a snack, drink, and a miraculous story to share. See Ms. Dircks or Mrs. Cline.

Donate your used baseball equipment! PVJH is collecting any and all baseball equipment to be donated to Quad City kids who would otherwise be unable to play the game. All donations will benefit kids baseball teams at One-Eighty in Davenport. For more information visit http://www.oneeighty.org/. If you are unable to deliver equipment to PVJH in the main office, call Monica Kruse at 309-737-8572 to arrange pick up.

Please let the Guidance Office know as soon as possible if you will not be returning to Pleasant Valley next year.

There will be NO Activity Busses on Thursday, February 9th.

There will be NO Musical Rehearsal on February 9th.

7th and 8th grade Cheerleaders will practice today after school.

The bus for the 7th grade basketball teams will leave at 3:40 today for their games in Davenport.

The bus for the swim team will leave at 4:15 today for their meet in Bettendorf.

Student shout-outs for the musical, Dear Edwina Jr. will be on sale during lunch next Thursday, February 16th. The shout-outs are $.50 each and will be available for purchase on Thursday, February 16th.

Polar Bear Running Club will be meeting after school next week Wednesday.

The library wants your feedback! There is a “Love It or Lose It” display of books that have not been checked out in quite a while. Take a look at these selections, check out those that catch your eye, and let the library know if you think we should keep the book or discard it from the library’s collection. Only you can save the books!

It’s time to vote for your favorite Iowa Teen Award Book. Stop by the library and vote today. The winner will be announced mid-March.

Bettendorf Optimist Club is having a speech competition Thursday, March 9th on the topic of “What the World Gains from Optimism.” This is a great scholarship opportunity, with possible advancements onto further scholarship competitions. Please see Mrs. VanLanduyt for more information.

The next book for Mrs. White’s Book Club will be Cinder by Marissa Meyer and will start on Thursday, March 9th. Students may sign up on the LA hallway bulletin board.

Come one and all to our yearbook meeting on Monday, October 17 from 3:15-4:30. We will meet in the computer lab (across from Ms. Dircks’ room) instead of in the library. We will vote on a theme for our yearbook as well as review the criteria for our custom cover contest. We will also go through the layout and determine our final page count. If you just finished a sport and would like to join us, we’d love to have you! Mrs. Backus and Mrs. Colvin

Hey Mock Trial Teams: Don’t forget that we practice from 2:30 to 4 on Friday! See you then!

Girls Basketball and Wrestling practices will begin on Monday.

Students: Are you interested in flying in an airplane and becoming a pilot? Learning about aerospace? Do you want to honor and serve America in search and rescue missions? If so, speak with Mrs. Thompson (school counselor) about how you could join the Civil Air Patrol Cadet program! This is a year-round program that meets once a week on Tuesdays, with additional opportunities and experiences over the summer. You will learn leadership skills, do obstacle courses, model rocketry & robotics, hike, camp, explore aviation careers, aerospace education, learn search and rescue techniques, be able to earn rank and awards (with possible scholarships for college), make friends, and have FUN!

The Student Hunger Drive has begun at the Junior High! Start bringing in non-perishable food to your advisory class to participate in our annual Can-Castle Competition. The competition ends on October 28th! The most creative castle wins hot coca, candy canes, and the travelling trophy. The advisory with the most canned food will win Whitey’s ice cream! See your student council representatives with any questions. Good luck!

The PV Junior High Spelling Bee will be held on Tuesday, November 15th, beginning at 3:00. It will be held in the library. All are welcome to compete. Please see Mrs. Mulfinger in room 60 for more information!

The Fall Social is Friday, October 14th from 2:30 – 4:00. Admission will be $1. Concessions will be available. DJ & Open Gym. REMEMBER NO ACTIVITY BUS. Students must have their own ride home at 4:00 pm.

Got talent? Can you play an instrument, sing, dance or do a magic trick? Do you have a group skit? Well show us at the Variety Show! November 18th, 6:30 pm in the JH gym. Sign-up sheets are in the office. Previews will be November 9 & 10th. Acts must be 3 minutes or less.

Be a part of PTA’s Reflections Program “What Is Your Story?” Submit your Artwork in the following areas: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. Entries from all grades and all abilities welcome. Deadline for entries is October 18 and 19.

Food + Friends + Literature = FUN! Join the Book Munchers Club at the LeClaire Public Library on Monday, October 24th. We will meet from 5:00-6:00 p.m. to discuss Driver’s Ed by Caroline Cooney. Copies of the book are available in the PVJH library (ask a librarian for a copy…they are stored behind the check-out desk) and at the LeClaire Public Library.
