The window for online course registration through the student portal is now open and will remain open until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 26th. Please note: Course registration is a separate process from the online registration process (updating of demographic information and paying 18-19 school fees) which will occur in the spring. Questions? Call PVJH Counseling Office at 563-332-0202.

Let the Battle Begin!!! The Battle of the Books (BOB) first competition will take place Thursday, March 1 at the junior high during advisory (2:30-3:15). The first competition should only last one hour. So have a ride ready by 3:30, or stay for the after school study hall and take the 5 o’clock bus home. Rules: All team members must be present to take the test. The test is fill in the blank. Your team will need to write the book title and the author(s) name(s) for each question. Come with a pen or pencil!

Mrs. White’s Book Club will be cancelled this week due to no activity bus/conferences. We will resume next Thursday March 1 at 2:30 in room 101.

Any 8th graders interested in baseball can join the Wednesday/Sunday PVHS baseball workouts at St Ambrose Dome. For information, email callahanjamesr@sau.edu.

Any 8th grade GIRLS interested in an engineering career have an opportunity to learn more about what engineers do at John Deere on Thursday, April 5th. Every year John Deere hosts an “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” at their Davenport Works plant. It is designed to give female students the opportunity to explore the creative and collaborative world of engineering through a variety of activities. We are limited to the first 25 students who return their signed permission slips (we will have a waiting list for students that decide not to go or are absent the day of). Permission slips and information are available on the board outside the counseling office and due back in the counseling office by Friday, March 9th.

There will be NO Activity Busses on Thursday or Friday of this week.

Yearbooks: Last week your child should have received notification letting them know whether or not they have purchased a yearbook. If you have not purchased a yearbook for your child and would like to, the deadlines are as follows: Yearbooks may be purchased in the main office through March 2. The yearbooks cost $28 and checks can be made out to Pleasant Valley Junior High (PVJH). Yearbooks will NOT be for sale at the end of the school year. Please get yours now! Purchased yearbooks will be handed out the last week of school.

Do gift cards, prizes, and recognition sound good to you? Stop by the LAL Writing Contest display across from the library (between the classrooms of Mrs. Bertog and Mrs. Small). Let’s show Scholastic that Spartans have writing talent!

The Winter Social is upon us quickly… Friday, February 23rd, 2:30 – 4:00. Admission will be $1. There will be concessions, open gyms, and music! Join you friends and hang out a bit!

Do you like to work with your hands? Would you be interested in a break from class in order to learn about career options? On March 1st we will be taking a group of 8th grade students on a field trip to learn about careers in the building trades. There will be hands-on activities and opportunities to learn about carpentry, plastering, roofing, masonry, HVAC, plumbing, as well as, the education needed for these careers. Any 8th grader interested may take a permission slip and return it to the counseling office by February 20th. Permission slips will be located in the cafeteria under the TV and on the post-secondary board outside the counseling office. See Mr. Teed with questions.

If you are interested in helping to create canvas paintings to display around the school please sign up for art club. We will meet on Wednesday February 28th at 3:15 – 4:45 in the art room. This project has 20 openings so will need to sign up outside the art room.

Polar Bear Running Club will be meeting this Wednesday and Friday after school in room 43. Be prepared for both outdoor and indoor running!

PE make-ups will be today after school. Anyone needing to make up a PE class can do that in the “A” gym from 2:30 until 3:10 pm.

The Youth Sports Foundation will be offering a new 7-On-7 Passing League in the spring of 2018. YSF will provide the following: * Footballs * 7-On-7 Snap Timer * Mouth guards * Reversible Game Jersey * Flags * 4 Game Schedule Season: The season begins the week of April 15th with the first scheduled practice. Game dates are April 22, 29, May 6 and 20. *7th and 8th grade games on Sunday afternoons. Registration & Fee Registrations will be done online at the YSF website beginning January 15th – March 31st. The total cost per player is $50.00, and includes their game jersey which they keep. Contact the YSF PV Coordinator Eric Dippel for information at (ejdippel1@gmail.com) or call (563) 332-1515. Luke Knepp finished first in his age division at the Davenport Elks State Hoop Shoot. He will be competing at the regional competition on March 10th. Congratulations and good luck Luke.
