Bridgeview

Holiday Wishes – May the joy of the season and the warm presence of family and friends be a part of your holiday celebrations.  Thank you for sharing your children with us; we look forward to their return in the New Year!

Winter Weather:  As the temperatures stay cold this winter, please remember that our building does not open until 8:05 AM.  Students will have Yak-n-Trak and other outdoor recesses when the temperature including wind chill is zero degrees or above.   If the temperature (wind-chill included) is less than zero degrees, our students stay inside for recess.  When they do go outside, please make sure that your student(s) is dressed appropriately (coats, gloves or mittens, hats, snowpants and boots if necessary).  Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated!

Bridgeview Pick-Up and Drop Off Procedures: With the onset of cold and snowy weather, more students are being dropped off and picked up rather than walking.  Due to that fact, a couple of reminders:

  1. Please plan for a little additional time in the mornings to allow students to be in the school and their classrooms by 8:30.  Three days of tardiness results in the equivalent of a day’s absence and we are working every day to minimize those absences by arriving on time and practicing healthy habits.
  2. Even with the winter weather, the left lane on Davenport is not a turn lane into Bridgeview.  The right lane is the only turn lane into the school drive.  Once that turn is made, the driveway does allow two lanes of traffic through the parking lot.
  3. Regardless of whether the morning recess is outside (Yak-n-Trak) or inside (Chill-n-Chat), please pull as far forward as you are able, dropping off your students anywhere along the sidewalk once the car in front of you is stopped.  On days the students are in the gym, please do not stop right outside Door C but continue to pull as far forward as you are able.
  4. Continue to cross the parking lot at the crosswalk in front of Door A.  This provides the best safety option for students and parents alike.

We appreciate your efforts to be patient and observe these procedures.  Every child’s safety is worth considerably more than two extra minutes in anyone’s day.

Thank You For Your Generosity!  Thank you one and all for your outpouring of generosity for Caleb’s Alive in Me Foundation.  Late this week with several more boxes to empty, Bridgeview students and families had collected somewhere between 800-900 items to donate to local hospitals for pediatric patients.  The model of “caring” that you have helped your child show is a wonderful life lesson about helping others.  Thank you for your amazing example of kindness!!

Winter Party – Students will celebrate the season with a holiday party on Thursday, December 22 beginning at 2:30.  For those individuals who are bringing/sending treats, remember  to consider non-food items  and if food items are included, to be sure and follow the Spartan Safe Snack list.

Family and Consumer Science Career Focus:  The Pleasant Valley High School FCS department offers a course to introduce students to the world of Housing and Interior Design.  This course is offered to all students 9-12 with no prerequisite.  Students will learn how to identify housing and architectural styles, the elements and principles of design, produce hand drawn floor plans using proper architectural symbols and furniture placement, use the Chief Architect program to design interiors, design a presentation board with floor plan, architectural features, doors, and windows relating to the needs of a client. Click here to learn about careers, salary, education required,  duties of interior designers and job availability!

Yearbook:  Do you have photos of your student from his/her trips, sporting events, extracurricular activities, dances, or any other school-related activity? The yearbook committee would love the opportunity to include them in this year’s book! To share your photos with us, please visit Replayit.com, create a free login, and select our school. Then, upload as many photos as you wish and we’ll take it from there. Help us reach our goal of including as many Spartans as possible in our 2016-2017 yearbook!

Attention parents of seniors:

Senior photos for the yearbook will be due Friday, March 3rd and should be submitted ONLINE  to our yearbook site. Simply go to images.jostens.com  and enter login id 406113607. Then, just follow the instructions for uploading your photo.  Your photo should be as large of a file size as possible, as that will guarantee that it shows up clearly.  You can submit any photo you wish, though we will zoom in on the student’s head, shoulders and chest area.

We are now accepting senior yearbook ads! If you have a senior, please consider honoring their accomplishments with a personalized vanity ad in a reserved section of this year’s yearbook.  Choose childhood and/or additional senior photos, along with a special message to surprise your student, who will surely treasure the ad for years to come.  The order form for these ads is attached.  There is limited space, so reserve your student’s spot today! If you have any questions, please contact Maureen Dyer, yearbook adviser, at 563.332.5151 or dyermaureen@pleasval.k12.ia.us .
