Only a limited supply of T-shirts will be available for purchase at the game, so it is recommended to order online by clicking here! Proceeds from the shirt sales will be donated to Colleen’s Dream Foundation – an organization that supports awareness and research regarding ovarian cancer. Cody Spelling Bee: The Cody Spelling Bee will be held on Tuesday, January 16 at 3:15 p.m. in the library!  Students in 3rd-6th grade are allowed to participate and the winner will represent Cody in the regional spelling bee at Augustana College on Wednesday, February 21st, 2018.  Stop in the office for a permission form and a list of words to study.

For Safety and Accountability: Please remember to contact the main office if your child plans a different after school event other than their normal after school routine.  Cody takes the responsibility of its students very seriously.  Please write a note in their student planner, call (563)332-0210, email Mrs. Kipper, kipperjennifer@pleasval.k12.ia.us, or Mrs. Spinsby, spinsbyc@pleasval.k12.ia.us

Winter Weather Recess: Students will have outdoor recess when the temperature is 0 degrees or above.   If the temperature (wind-chill included) is less than 0 degrees, students stay inside for recess.  During this season, please make sure that your student(s) are dressed appropriately (coats, gloves or mittens, hats, and boots if necessary).  Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated!

Coffee with the Principal: Please join Mr. Welch and other Hopewell parents for Dunn Brothers coffee, casual conversations, and questions on Friday, January 5th, 8:30-9:00 a.m. in the cafeteria.  See you there!

Hopewell Basic Robotics:  If your 5th or 6th grade student loves robotics, this is the program for them! Basic Robotics teaches students how to construct and program Lego EV3 robots.  The cost is $10 per student and only 15 students will be accepted into the program based on a lottery drawing and completed essay.  All applications are due to the office by 3:00 p.m. on January 11th.  For more information and to fill out the application form, click here.

Hopewell Spelling Bee: The Hopewell Spelling Bee will be held on January 18th in the Library at 3:15 p.m. Interested participants should complete this permission form and return it to school by January 12, 2018. Practice lists are available in the office, and a list of practice words by grade is attached here. The winner will represent Hopewell in the regional spelling bee at Augustana College on Wednesday, February 21st, 2018. Good Luck, Spellers!

Gift Card PurchasingPurchase gift cards and raise money for Hopewell!  To help out, purchase a gift card at face value and Hopewell earns a percent from each retailer.  Please direct questions to the Gift Card Committee Chair: Shubhangi Agrawal via email – shubhangi1012@gmail.com. World Culture NightHopewell needs help making its first World Culture Night a success!  World Culture Night will celebrate the diverse cultures found in countries throughout the world as well as in Hopewell. It will be a fun-filled event emphasizing understanding, acceptance, empathy and unity. This event is scheduled for Friday, February 23rd from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.  Hopewell needs your help and enthusiasm to showcase a country of which you’re familiar. Hopewell Variety Show: Are you a musician, dancer, or actor?  Want to tell jokes, juggle, or show off some athletic skills? Now’s your chance to be in the spotlight! Pajama Drive Success:  The Pleasant View students donated 299 pairs of pajamas this year, making this the biggest collection year yet! The pajamas were given to Humility of Mary, Family Resources, and Winnie’s Place. The organizations were extremely thankful for this clothing!  THANK YOU!

SaveAround Coupon Book:  Earlier this week your child brought home a SaveAround coupon book order form envelope, which is a fundraiser sponsored by the PTA each year.  Click here to access the informational flyer provided in the envelope with your student.  As a reminder, the completed order form, or the blank envelope with the unsold sample coupon book, needs to be returned to Pleasant View on or before January 26th.  Please also note one of the bulleted points in the flyer about student safety:  Remember, this is NOT meant as a door-to-door sale to strangers.  The safety of your student is our first concern.  Parents, try to sell to relatives, neighbors, and co-workers.  Thank you for your continuing to support Pleasant View Elementary and the PTA!

Finals Schedules:  Click here to view the finals schedules for January 10th, 11th, and 12th.  Please note different start times on Friday.

Second Semester SchedulesSecond semester schedules are posted on the portal and students should print their own schedule for the 1st day of the new semester.  Just a reminder that the students’ schedules are based on staffing needs.  Scheduling changes CANNOT be made at this time to accommodate students’ requests for a different teacher, to change electives, or to accommodate late arrival/early release preferences.  Due to the fact that most classes are at or over capacity, PVHS asks that students and parents be respectful of these guidelines.  Lunch schedules will be posted throughout the school on the first day of second semester.
