Tis the Season: As the end of the school year moves closer to becoming a reality, classes begin to take field trips to various locations.  Next week 6th grade students will be traveling to the Putnam Museum and Wednesday and participating in their annual Camp-Out experience at Camp Wyoming on Thursday and Friday.  Students in second grade will be visiting the Botanical Center on Thursday and our third and fifth grade students will be enjoying new learning on Friday at the Buffalo Bill and Hoover Museums respectively.  Please make sure your students are prepared with lunches, and whatever other materials are needed for their experience.

Bridgeview Flag Ceremony:  Bridgeview students and guests as well as current and former military personnel are invited to participate in the school’s annual flag ceremony scheduled for 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 16.  The ceremony will take place outside around the flag pole unless inclement weather forces us into the gymnasium.  The American Legion Post #347 will facilitate a portion of the ceremony and present a flag to 5th grade essay winner Kaleigh McGrath who will read her essay at the ceremony.  Additionally, students will sing several patriotic songs including The Star-Spangled Banner and Fly High, You Grand Old Flag.  Students are reminded to wear red, white and blue in recognition of our patriotic colors.

Senior Recognition Celebration, May 17: Bridgeview Alumni who are members of the graduating Class of 2017 are invited to attend a Senior Recognition Celebration in your honor on Wednesday, May 17 beginning at 2:35.  Please plan to enter the building through Door C (close to the gym/cafeteria), with your cap and gown.  We will then walk the halls of Bridgeview to the shouts and cheers of our students as they congratulate you!  Bridgeview alumni will be the honorees at a reception in the library immediately following the school day where they will have an opportunity to celebrate with their former elementary teachers.

PTA Meeting on Thursday, May 18, at 6:30 pm.  Agenda items will include voting on the budget and officers for the 2016-17 school year.

Hopewell Flag Ceremony Friday, May 19, 10:30am:  On Friday, May 19th at 10:30 a.m. on the front lawn at Hopewell, we will celebrate the American Flag and our active and retired service members. This tradition of reflection and honor is in partnership with the American Legion, Le Claire. Hopewell families are invited to join us for this celebration. Service members, active and retired, are invited to attend. If you are a current or previous service member and you are planning to attend, please call 563.332.0250 to RSVP.

Hopewell Gardeners needed!  Immediately seeking anyone with gardening or conservation experience, who would be willing to help maintain the beds at Hopewell during both the school year and summer, including the 20+ native species in the Butterfly Garden. A brief training on plant identification will be held, at various times of day, the week of May 22nd – 26th (dates and times flexible). Box Top Collections: Please have any remaining boxtops turned into the bag outside your child’s classroom by 5/19/2017.  Many of you may wonder if those silly little boxtops are worth putting in bags and sending off to school…. well, Hopewell will get a check for over $1,600 for this school year!!! So please take a bow and pat yourself on the back for that effort! Thank you for supporting Hopewell!

Class of 2021!  8th Grade Social, TONIGHT, May 12:  The social is for 8th grade students and will be from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Junior High. There will be music, a photo area, snacks, beverages, open gym, and FUN!   This is not a formal event.

The Scott County Book Mobile will be at the Junior High on Monday, May 15th from 1:30-3:15 to kick off Summer Reading. Only students with a library card will be able to allowed to go on the Book Mobile.

All library books are due next Friday, May 19th. All students’ library fines should be paid as well. Students can see what books they have checked out and if they have any library fines by logging in with the username: student ID number and their password: their last name @ Destiny Card Catalog . Simply click on the “My Info” tab to view account information.

PE Lockers:  On Monday, May 22nd all JH students will turn in their locks for PE. At this time it important for everything to be out of the PE lockers and taken home. Students will have until Thursday May 25th to have everything out of the lockers before all lockers will be emptied and cleared on Friday, May 26th. Once lockers are cleared, all left over clothes and shoes will be placed in lost and found until the end of the school year.  All unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity.

Incoming Freshmen Service Learning Opportunities:  On May 10th, Mrs. Jepsen from PVHS came out to PVJH to talk with 8th grade students about the service learning requirement.  Current 8th grade students can begin accumulating their service learning hours this summer. Fall Play Auditions:  The 2017 fall play is Oh, What a Tangled Web by John R. Carroll! Auditions for the fall play will be on the first and second day of school (Wednesday, August 23rd and Thursday, August 24th) from 2:30-4:45. Please sign-up outside of Mrs. VanLanduyt’s room when you are at registration or on the first or second day of school. Yearbook orders due soon! The deadline to order a yearbook from the 2016-2017 school year is approaching quickly. Our book is packed with memories from this year and your student won’t want to miss out on the opportunity to have a beautiful keepsake they’ll treasure forever. The cost is $70. Payment can be made in the main office. All orders are due by Friday, May 26th. There will not be yearbooks available for sale when they arrive—all books must be preordered. If you are unsure whether you purchased a yearbook during the registration process, you can verify by logging into your campus portal and looking for the $70 charge under the Fees tab, or you can call the main office at 563.332.5151.

Attention parents of seniors: We have only a few spots left for senior yearbook ads and will fill them on a first-submitted basis! If you have a senior, please consider honoring their accomplishments with a personalized vanity ad in a reserved section of this year’s yearbook.  Choose childhood and/or additional senior photos, along with a special message to surprise your student, who will surely treasure the ad for years to come. Senior Picnic, May 25:  Attention Senior’s & Parent Volunteers!  The PTA sponsored “Senior Picnic” will be held after Graduation Rehearsal on Thursday, May 25, 2017 starting at 11am at Veteran’s Memorial Park, 1645 23rd St, Bettendorf, IA 52722.  Tickets will be sold in the PVHS Front office for $5.00 each.  Your ticket includes a delicious lunch, drink & desert, Plus a chance to win Door Prizes.  Students Must bring their ticket for entry into the picnic and to register for Door Prizes.  We have several unclaimed Door Prizes from RAP that have been donated to the Picnic such as:  dorm size refrigerator, DVD player, Bluetooth speaker, luggage and many more.

Quad Cities Museum Week:  From June 17 through 25, over 20 museums from across the Quad Cities region will come together for the third annual Quad Cities Museum Week. Enjoy this celebration of our region’s museums and participate in special activities, exhibits and promotions during this fun-filled week. This year’s theme will be “QC Spotlight”. Each museum will feature people, items, inventions, products, and historical  events that spotlight and tell a story about the Quad Cities. Museum Week is the perfect opportunity for families and friends to get out and explore.  Each museum features its own, theme, history, galleries, and exhibits.  Come and discover these wonderful historical and cultural treasures that add to the quality of life in our region. Cub Scout Registration, May 20:  Does your son like outdoor activities, camping, games, awards and more?  Then, Scouting is for him!  This is for boys who will be in 1st grade through 5th grade next school year.  Riverdale Heights Elementary, Cub Scout Pack 24, is holding a new Cub Scout registration event on May 20th from 4pm to 5pm at Veteran’s Memorial Park (the bandshell on 23rd St south of Middle Road).  We will have an alternate location of Riverdale Heights Cafeteria if it is raining.  There are activites planned for your son during the event so bring him along.  For questions, contact Eric Hupp at 650-0792 or email him at thehupps@gmail.com.
