Parent-Teacher Conferences:  Conference letters will be going home Monday with the time and day for your child’s conference.  These need to be returned by Thursday October 26.

PTA Reflections Entries Due October 25 or 26:  Drop your entries off either the morning of Wednesday, October 25 or Thursday, October 26. There will be a representative by the office to pick up the entries. Please have your entries filled out completely and signed by the student and parent. Also, make sure photos and flimsy visual art are mounted on cardboard or something similar. It’s a plus to have literature in a clear sleeve.  We can’t wait to see your work!

Help the PVHS Early Childhood Development Course:  To teach high school students stages of early childhood development, students observe children in a lab setting.  If you would be willing to bring your child to observe, please email Marta Brooks at brooksm@pleasval.k12.ia.us.  Include your name, phone number, name and age of your child and which day you can bring them. The four lab observation will be:

Infants- (birth to 6 months)- Friday, November 3, 2017
Infants (6-12 months),Thursday, November 16, 2017

The TWO classes meet from 1:05-1:55 and 2:00-2:45 every day.

Halloween Party, October 31: Halloween parties will begin in classrooms on October 31, 2017 at 2:30pm.  All students will parade starting with K classrooms going to 1st grade at approximately 2:15pm and culminating through the grade levels in our building.  Reminder: costumes may not include any kind of toy weapon (knives, swords, etc.).  They should not depict violent acts or the results of violence through the use of fake blood, etc.  Please be mindful that our school community encompasses children of all ages and costumes should not be frightening to others.
***Don’t forget the Spartan Safe Snack List.

4th Grade Hour of Code Registration:  The PVHS Women in STEM club is proud to provide a free after school opportunity for 4th Grade students called “Hour of Code”. The Hour of Code is a brief introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics of computer science. This class is geared toward ALL students and every ability level is welcome – no past experience is necessary.

We will meet at each elementary school on November 1st from 1:30-3:00pm. For more information, please click here or contact Megan Vandersee .  Please use this link to register your student online by midnight Saturday, October 28th. The program is limited to approximately 30 students at each elementary school.

Haunted Theatre, October 27:  Pleasant Valley High School Department of Theatre will be hosting a family friendly Haunted Theatre experience on October 27th from 1:00pm-3:30pm at the PVHS Mainstage Theatre. Come on a journey with Jack and Jennie as they search for Jennie’s little sister, Patty, who is stuck in an evil asylum! Tickets will be $3 for the first time, or $2 with cans for the Student Hunger Drive and then $1 for each consecutive time through after.

The Drowsy Chaperone, November 2, 4 and 5: The Pleasant Valley High School Theatre Department will be putting on a production of The Drowsy Chaperone on November 2nd & 4th at 7pm and 5th at 2pm. A musical theatre fan’s favorite musical comes to life in his New York apartment.  One wedding, or is it no weddings, or is it three weddings or four!? Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens. You can get your tickets now https://thelittleboxoffice.com/pleasantvalley  Drama Club boosters will be selling desserts at intermission for the Saturday night performance!

Fall Conferences Online Scheduling:  Hopewell Elementary will utilize an online conference schedule system for our fall conferences. In addition, we will hold a traditional conference night on Thursday, November 9th, and provide a range of additional conference times between November 6th and November 17th.  Roots & Shoots is starting November 6thRoots and Shoots is a social/curriculum-based service-learning program. Roots & Shoots encourages youth to make positive changes happen―for the animal community, for the human community, and for the environment.

  • We will meet once a week after school for one hour, Mondays 3 to 4pm.
  • We will have sign-ups for grades 3 through 6 in October, pulling names on Nov 1st.
  • We will start meetings on November 6th and end April 23rd.
  • We will have a dues fee of $20.

Fall Conferences Online SchedulingRiverdale Heights Elementary School will be using the PTC Fast Online Scheduling program for Parent-Teacher conferences for the 2017-2018 school year.  The online scheduling system will allow parents to select the time to meet with teachers that is easy and convenient for them.  The scheduling window will open up on Monday, October 16th and will remain open until Monday, October 30th .  Conferences are being held Tuesday, November 7th  and Thursday, November 9th  from 3:30-8:00.   Click here for more information and to schedule conferences with your teacher!

Parent Teacher Conference Feedback: As you know, this year, we changed our format for parent teacher conferences.  We want to know what you thought about the new process.  Click here to take a quick survey.

PVJH Iowa Assessment Testing – November 1st and 2nd: Students will test all day on Wednesday, November 1st which is an Early Out day in their Advisor class rooms.  Students will finish testing on Thursday, November 2nd from 7:34 a.m. to 9:34 a.m. in their Advisor classrooms followed by an adjusted schedule for the remainder of November 2nd.  Dismissal on November 2nd is at the regular time. Please make every effort to have your student at school on time each day.  If possible,  please do not schedule appointments during the testing time on Wednesday and Thursday

The Scholastic Book Fair was a great success! We met our book sale goal, and we’re able to purchase over $1,500.00 worth of books and book repair supplies for the library. Thank you PV parents for your steadfast support of reading and our libraries.

Student Hunger Drive: Would you like to see your teachers get a big ol’ PIE to the face at the next assembly?!? We have one week left for the Student Hunger Drive at the Junior High. If our goal of 100 boxes of cans is met by the end of next week (Friday, October 27th) you will get to see Mr. McGurk, Mrs. Broders, Ms. Haarhues, Mr. Cavanagh, Mrs. Mente, Ms. Larsen, AND Mrs. Maurer all get pies in the face!! All you have to do is bring in non-perishable food items and turn it in to any of the boxes placed around the school. Good luck!

ATTENTION PARENTS, Iowa Assessment Tests:  On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, Pleasant Valley High School will administer the Iowa Assessment Test to all 9th, 10th and 11th grade students.  We will follow an early out schedule.

  • Students should check the rosters outside of the counseling office Mon/Tue to find their testing room.
  • Please report to testing room by 8:10am on Wednesday morning.  Testing will begin promptly after the 8:10 bell.
  • Dismiss at 12:05, lunch available until 12:30pm.
  • Busses will leave at 12:30pm.

NOTE: Seniors and Foreign Exchange students do not have to report to school on Wednesday, November 1, 2017.  They are, however, encouraged to use this day for college visits.

North Tennis Courts Closed:  The four north tennis courts will be closed for the remainder of the fall because of the PVHS construction.  The four south courts will remain open for public use.

Haunted Theatre, October 27:  Pleasant Valley High School Department of Theatre will be hosting a family friendly Haunted Theatre experience on October 27th from 1:00pm-3:30pm at the PVHS Mainstage Theatre. Come on a journey with Jack and Jennie as they search for Jennie’s little sister, Patty, who is stuck in an evil asylum! Tickets will be $3 for the first time, or $2 with cans for the Student Hunger Drive and then $1 for each consecutive time through after.

The Drowsy Chaperone, November 2, 4 and 5: The Pleasant Valley High School Theatre Department will be putting on a production of The Drowsy Chaperone on November 2nd & 4th at 7pm and 5th at 2pm. A musical theatre fan’s favorite musical comes to life in his New York apartment.  One wedding, or is it no weddings, or is it three weddings or four!? Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens.
