The Drowsy Chaperone: Come see PVHS Drama Club’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone. A musical theatre fan’s favorite musical comes to life in his New York apartment. Halloween Party, October 31: Halloween parties will begin in classrooms on October 31, 2017 at 2:30 pm.  All students will parade, starting with K classrooms going to 1st grade at approximately 2:15 pm and culminating through the grade levels in our building.  Reminder: costumes may not include any kind of toy weapon (knives, swords, etc.).  They should not depict violent acts or the results of violence through the use of fake blood, etc.  Please be mindful that our school community encompasses children of all ages and costumes should not be frightening to others.

Book Fair: Fall has arrived, and it is bringing our book fair with it!  The Cody Fall Book Fair will be open November 6-10 from 11:30 – 1:00 (during lunch), and Nov. 7 & 9 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. (during conferences). In order for our fair to be open during our advertised hours, we need volunteers to help.  Please sign up to help out at our fair by going to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c48a5aa23a5fe3-20172.

Fall Conferences Online Scheduling:  Hopewell Elementary will utilize an online conference schedule system for our fall conferences. In addition, we will hold a traditional conference night on Thursday, November 9th, and provide a range of additional conference times between November 6th and November 17th. Roots & Shoots Starts November 6th: Roots and Shoots is a social/curriculum-based service-learning program. It encourages youth to make positive changes happen for the animal community, for the human community, and for the environment. With tens of thousands of people in more than 120 countries involved, Roots & Shoots members are identifying problems in their communities and taking action to make a difference across the globe!

How does this look at Hopewell? Meetings will be every Monday that school is in session from 3-4 p.m. To be considered, students must be in grades 3-6 and sign up by October 31st. Participation is limited to 30 students. If more than 30 students sign up, a random drawing will take place on November 1st to fill the available spots. Meetings will begin on November 6th, and end April 23rd. Dues are $20.

Book Fair: The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Pleasant View on Tuesday, November 7th and Thursday, November 9th.  The Fair will be open during parent-teacher conferences from 3:00-8:00 p.m.  Students will preview the books on October 30th and 31st, and will have an opportunity to make purchases from the Book Fair carts on November 2nd and 3rd.

We need volunteers in the following areas:

  • help students compile wish lists
  • help students purchase books during school hours
  • setup and run the cash register
  • help locate books for parents
  • help clean up after the two book fair nights

Hunger Drive: Thank you to all the families who have been able to donate to the hunger drive this year. We are about 2,000 items short of reaching our 10,000 item goal. On Monday, October 30, staff will be outside to take any final donations from your car as you drop off your children. Please send the items in a bag. Thank you again!

Fall Conferences Online Scheduling:  Riverdale Heights Elementary School will be using the PTC Fast Online Scheduling program for Parent-Teacher conferences for the 2017-2018 school year.  The online scheduling system will allow parents to select the time to meet with teachers that is easy and convenient for them.  The scheduling window will remain open until Monday, October 30th.  Conferences are being held Tuesday, November 7th and Thursday, November 9th from 3:30-8:00 p.m.  Click here for more information and to schedule conferences with your teacher!

Community Opportunities

Quest for Christ: Quest for Christ is an after-school Christian club that invites all 2nd – 6th graders to join in for fun, friends, Bible teaching and service. Quest for Christ meets at Riverdale Heights on Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. We will begin on Nov. 3. Attention Wrestling and Girls Basketball Parents: We are in need of volunteers to help sell concessions at your student’s athletic games (matches). Each shift is only 2 hours and 15 minutes long, and you can split the shift with another parent. The PTA does no fundraising at the JH with the exception of selling concessions.

PVJH Iowa Assessment Testing – November 1st and 2nd:  Students will test all day on Wednesday, November 1st, which is an Early Out day, in their advisor classrooms.  Students will finish testing on Thursday, November 2nd from 7:34 to 9:34 am in their advisor classrooms, followed by an adjusted schedule for the remainder of the day.  Dismissal on November 2nd is at the regular time. Please make every effort to have your student at school on time each day.  If possible, please do not schedule appointments during the testing time on Wednesday and Thursday.

Attention parents, Iowa Assessment Tests:  On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, Pleasant Valley High School will administer the Iowa Assessment Test to all 9th, 10th and 11th grade students. We will follow an early out schedule.

  • Students should check the rosters outside of the counseling office Mon/Tue to find their testing room.
  • Students should report to their testing room by 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday.  Testing will begin promptly after the 8:10 bell.
  • Dismissal will be at 12:05 p.m., lunch will be available until 12:30 p.m.
  • Busses will leave at 12:30 p.m.

NOTE: Seniors and Foreign Exchange students do not have to report to school on Wednesday, November 1.  They are, however, encouraged to use this day for college visits.

North Tennis Courts Closed:  The four north tennis courts are closed for the remainder of the fall because of the construction.  The four south courts will remain open for public use.

Playoff Football: Tonight (October 27th), the Spartan football team will be battling Bettendorf (@ Bettendorf) in the first round of playoffs. Kickoff is at 7 p.m., gates open at 5:45 p.m. Tickets are $6.00 for all and will be sold in the PVHS Main Office until 3:00pm on Friday. We were only issued 500 tickets. Get your ticket(s) early so you don’t have to wait in line at Bettendorf. Come out and support your Spartans!

Support PV Athletics: The PV Athletic Booster Club’s Booster Bash is scheduled for November 18th at 7:00 p.m. at Tanglewood Pavilion. Silent auction, door prizes, and the winning ticket for the $10,000 raffle will be drawn. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Ticket price includes heavy hors d’oeuvres and beer.  Cash bar also available.  Adults only – DJ/Dancing — Casual dress — Alumni are welcome and encouraged to attend!
