Announcements

Hurricane Harvey Relief: At Cody School, we will be collecting change in an effort to help raise money for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.  Students and adults are encouraged to donate their spare change to our collection bucket in the commons area across from the office. Together, our efforts will help Team Rubicon.  The organization, started by PV Alum Jake Wood, uses the skills of military veterans to help those in need after a natural disaster. Harvey response and recovery operations will continue for months; this will be the largest, most complex operation Team Rubicon says it has ever undertaken. Your support is critical to help our fellow citizens and communities in Texas and the Gulf in their time of greatest need.   Our goal is to raise $5,000, approximately $1 for every student in the Pleasant Valley School District. To learn more about Team Rubicon and its efforts in the Gulf, please visit their website by clicking here.

Pleasant View

Announcements

Hurricane Harvey Drive:  Hurricane Harvey has left many children and adults in Texas and along the gulf shores of the United States in need of many services.  Our students, staff and teachers would like to do their part in helping those in need by collecting loose change and making a monetary donation to Team Rubicon.  Each school in our district will be holding a fundraising event to help support the efforts of Team Rubicon.  More information about Team Rubicon can be found here.  Successful coin drives were held in the past at Pleasant View for relief efforts for earthquake victims in Haiti and Nepal, tsunami victims in Japan, Oklahoma tornados, and Superstorm Sandy, just to name a few.

Our coin drive for Hurricane Harvey relief will begin on Monday, September 11th and conclude on Tuesday, September 12th.  Any donation, even 1 cent, would be appreciated.  Loose change is encouraged for this type of relief effort.  Collection containers will be in each of the classrooms for the donations. Thanks in advance to the Pleasant View PTA who has generously agreed to match all donations up to $1000!

One of the main messages we will be sharing with students is “If everyone does a little, we can help a lot!”  There is no need for your child to empty their piggy bank. Students will be encouraged to donate just a small amount of change.  There is no need for students to ask you as parents/guardians to write a check or ask for cash.  A small amount from the piggy bank or permission to use loose change from around the house is preferred for this relief effort.

Thank you for supporting Team Rubicon as they begin to help those in need in Texas and along the gulf shores, and by helping your child determine what is an comfortable amount to donate towards Hurricane Harvey relief.  Feel free to call the office at 332-5575 with any questions about this relief effort.

Sincerely,

Steven Cotton, Principal

PTA Clubs, Science and RoadRunners open Sept. 11:  Riverdale Height’s PTA club registration for SCIENCE and ROADRUNNERS CLUB opens Monday morning – September 11, 2017 at 7am.  Registration is online though the PTA website.

In an attempt to offer more students a spot in the clubs, we will implement a student selection process.  The school year will be divided into semesters – September to December and January to April.  Each club will be offered twice this school  year – one time each semester. Each child will get to participate in 2 clubs per semester including Geography Club, Art Club, Chess Club, Roadrunners Running Club, Robotics Club, Science Club, and Sign Language Club.  Each child can apply for 3 choices for the fall in order of priority and will placed in the club(s) of their choice if available.  If PTA is not able to place them in the club of their choice in the 1st semester, the child will be given the first right of refusal to join the club in the 2nd semester.  New applications in the 2nd semester will be called for based on the number of slots available for each club.  No child will be able to attend the same club both in the 1st and 2nd semesters.  To register, please access the PTA website starting Monday morning. Because most clubs are limited to 15 students, before registering please review meeting dates to be sure your child’s other after-school activities do not conflict.  A description of each club and the meeting dates can be found on the PTA website:  www.riverdaleheightspta.com  After you register your child, you will receive an email notification and instructions for payment later in the week.
