The My Favorite Teacher Contest is open to all current students and active teachers within the WQAD News 8 viewing area. Each entrant must submit an essay explaining who his/her favorite teacher is/was and why that particular educator is so outstanding. Entry forms and complete rules are available to download at http://wqad.com/2018/12/31/my-favorite-teacher-2019/

Musical rehearsal today from 3:15 – 4:45.

The cheerleaders and boys basketball teams will have pictures taken after school.

High school should be the best time of Melinda’s life. Instead, she finds her freshman year a nightmare as she is rejected by her former friends, cut off from her parents, and unable to reveal a secret – a secret so terrible she isn’t speaking at all. Just what is this secret? What could be so traumatic that Melinda’s world is now lived behind closed doors? Well, read the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson to find out. Then, join Spartan Book Club on January 29th from 6:00-7:30 at Habaneros in Bettendorf. Feel free to bring money for dinner or for a snack as we delve into this sensitive topic centered around the #metoo movement. (If the content of this novel is not “for you,” we hope to see you at the NEXT Spartan Book Club Meeting in May.) The traditional copy of the book may be checked out from our school library, or you might want to pick up your own copy of the new graphic novel. See Ms. Dircks or Mrs. Cline if you have any questions!
