Bridgeview Walk-a-Thon: Bridgeview students will be participating in our PTA’s annual walk-a-thon fundraiser on Friday, April 26th during their school day. Our theme will be “RAINBOWREFRESH!” We have an exciting week with a donation war and an obstacle course for the walk-a-thon. We encourage all students to participate and together, we can reach our goal of $3,500. The funds from the event will be used to purchase new DRINKING FOUNTAIN for the gym area! PV Drama Dept. in Search of Chair: While doing spring cleaning, do you happen to have a chair you no longer need that you would like to see go out with one more moment of glory?  The Drama Department is looking for a chair reminiscent of Martin Crane’s chair from Frazier for our upcoming production of She Kills Monsters on April 26 & 27.  The Drama Department would like it ASAP so they can add even more “character” to it.  Contact Bill Myatt at myattw@pleasval.k12.ia.us if you can be of assistance!

Cody Calypso: The Cody Calypso is an all school dance held TONIGHT, Friday, April 12 in the Cody gym from 6-7:30 pm.  This is a free event. It is for the entire family but it is not a drop off event. The theme this year is NEON. Thank you for supporting this fun event!

No School Reminder:  There is no school Friday, April 19th. Please plan accordingly.

Yearbooks: If you have not purchased a yearbook for your child there is still time! Yearbooks may be ordered on-line or by sending payment to the main office.  The cost of the yearbook is $16. (Checks made to Hopewell Elementary).   To see if a yearbook has previously been ordered, check the fee tab in your parent portal or call the Hopewell office.  Purchased yearbooks will be distributed the last week of school.

Hopewell VIP Day:  VIP Day at Hopewell is coming up on May 3, 2019 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.! This year, Hopewell PTA is asking that each child fill out the registration form (Click here). In past years this has been a family form, but this year, please provide a form for EACH student at Hopewell by April 26th. Thank you for your assistance with this!

World Culture Night: World Culture Night is TONIGHT, Friday, April 12th from 6:00-8:00pm in the gym! It is a free fun-filled event to celebrate the diverse cultures found in countries throughout the world as well as at Pleasant View.  Students will travel the World to fill up their passports!

Teacher Appreciation Week: Teacher Appreciation Week is rapidly approaching!  Please consider showing your appreciation to your children’s’ teachers by signing up to bring goodies the week of May 6-10.  The sign-up links are as follows:

OPEN PTA Committee Chairs for 2019/2020 are:

  • PV Spirit Wear – organize the planning and ordering of PV Spartan apparel
  • Fall Fest Games – organize and prepare the FF carnival games; the veteran chair will be your guide
  • Hospitality – plan and host events such as Grandparents Day, New Family Welcome, Senior Walk and Retirement celebrations
  • Fall Fest Tickets – print, send home and record ticket sales for FF
  • Yearbook co-chair – take pictures and scrapbook on the provided software to assist with the school yearbook

IEP Transition Night: If you have a student receiving IEP services, you’re invited the transition night on Tuesday, April 16th. This is an evening for students receiving IEP services, and their family, to make connections to community agencies for high school and post-secondary success. This event is put together to help the transition process  for IEP students at the secondary level, understanding that true, encompassing learning is the result of a network of people working together for students. Details are as follows:

  • When: Tuesday, April 16th, 2019
    • 6:00-7:00pm @ PVHS in Spartan Commons: (8th Grade) – Pizza, Meeting Case Managers, Building Tour
    • 7:00-8:00pm @ PVHS in Cafeteria: (7-12th Grade) – Meet with different community agency representatives to get information relevant to transition and available community services

PVJH Dress Code: Spartans as the temperatures continue to get warmer please take the time to review the PVJH dress code in the student/parent handbook. Pants/shorts must be worn at the waist to insure that undergarments are not visible. Shirts must cover the abdomen, cleavage, shoulders, and back during normal classroom activities. Thank you in advance for following the PVJH dress expectations.

Leaving the District: If your JH student will not be returning to the Pleasant Valley district for the 2019-2020 school year, please contact the JH Counseling office at 563-332-0202 as soon as possible.

No School Reminder:  There is no school Friday, April 19th. Please plan accordingly.

Q3 Report Cards: PVHS Quarter 3 report cards are now available on the parent student portal.  If you have questions or concerns about your student’s report card, please contact the teacher.  To access the report cards on the portal, click “Reports” under the student’s name.  Then select the “HS Q3 Report Card”. Please note the Student/Parent Handbook states:

  • Incomplete: When a student’s work is not completed by the end of the quarter due to being absent from school, he/she receives an “I”. This work, in most cases, must be made up within two weeks after the end of the quarter. Exceptions to the two-week period must be cleared through either the principal or the associate principal. If work is not made up in the allowed time, the “I” becomes an “F”.
  • All work is due by April 17th for any incomplete grade.

  • Summer jobs are beginning to open, if you are looking for a part-time or summer job look on the Career Center webpage or ask a company you might be interested in . . . but don’t wait! College students will be coming home looking for summer jobs. Hy-Vee has open interviews through the month of April (see the Career Center Bulletin Board) and the City of Bettendorf has several openings (see the Career Center webpage under Job Search Info, Job Postings.
  • Seniors who are looking for a part-time job that could transition to a living-wage job see Mrs. Johnson regarding the Scott Community College Career Fair, April 17th, 10:00 a.m.
  • The World Language Lunch & Learn is Wednesday, April 24th, 11:30-1:05 in the Main Stage Theatre. Sign-up here.

St. Ambrose Society of Women Engineers Dine and Discuss: St. Ambrose University’s Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is hosting a Dine and Discuss event on Tuesday, April 23.This dinner is open to current high school and college students interested in engineering and STEM careers (women only). Meet representatives from St. Ambrose and area engineering firms, with guest speaker: Amy Kerr, Plant Manager for Nestle Purina.
