Bridgeview Walk-a-Thon: Bridgeview students will be participating in our PTA’s annual walk-a-thon fundraiser on Friday, April 26th during their school day. Our theme will be “RAINBOWREFRESH!” We have an exciting week with a donation war and an obstacle course for the walk-a-thon. We encourage all students to participate and together, we can reach our goal of $3,500. The funds from the event will be used to purchase new DRINKING FOUNTAIN for the gym area! Bridgeview Veteran’s Breakfast and Flag Ceremony: Calling All Veterans and Active Military Personnel! Bridgeview’s fifth graders are serving a spectacular breakfast in the Bridgeview cafeteria on May 14th, for all veterans and active military personnel, from 8:30 to 9:00 am, followed by a school-wide flag ceremony and Memorial Day recognition at 9:00 am.  Please RSVP by May 1st to sitrickt@pleasval.k12.ia.us, larsonrebecca@pleasval.k12.ia.us, or contact the school at 563-332-0215. Cody Skating Party: The final Cody skating party for this school year will be Tuesday, April 23rd at Eldridge Skate Park! See you there!

Teacher Appreciation Week: Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10th. The Cody PTA will give the teachers goodie bags on Monday, breakfast on Tuesday, dessert bar on Wednesday, lunch on Thursday provided by a parent volunteer (also Pajama Day at school), and Friday is “spoil your teachers day” where students can bring teachers a card/flowers/gift card/gift.  Please click here to sign up if you are able to donate items for the week.

School Supply Box Ordering: School Supply Box ordering for the 2019-20 school year will open May 1st!  This helps you save time and money when back-to-school shopping.  Everything your child needs for the classroom is in one box and is delivered directly to the school. Order deadline is June 16, 2019. For questions, contact Wendy Bock, bockw@bhc.edu.

  • Supplies will be delivered before school starts in August.  Look for them at Meet and Greet Night.  This is not a fundraiser, but a service provided by the Riverdale Heights PTA.

PTA Meeting: The next PTA Meeting is Tuesday, April 23rd 6:30pm in the library. Please join us for a Q&A with Principal Jennifer Gertson, talk about upcoming events, and discussion on the happenings within Riverdale Heights! Childcare will be available.

Backyard Bash Committee Meeting: The Backyard Bash committee will be meeting at 5:30pm Tuesday (before the PTA meeting). All are welcome who would like to be a part of planning this super neat (and brand new) event to celebrate the end of the school year. Family Movie Night: Join Riverdale Heights for Family Movie Night next Friday, April 26th for a big screen viewing of “Smallfoot” in the gym.  Pizza, drinks, and popcorn will be available for purchase beginning at 5:30 p.m. Movie will start promptly at 6:00pm with free admission!  Put on your pajamas or comfy clothes, bring your blankets & pillows, and kick off your weekend with fun with your Riverdale Heights family!

PVHS Drop Off/Pick Up Reminders: Parents and community members, PVHS is celebrating the end of a rough winter and the completion of our two year building project. Your patience and understanding has been deeply appreciated as we made every attempt to keep traffic flowing and minimize disruptions during construction. To take full advantage of our new traffic design, you will no longer need to use the west entrance (W1). To avoid traffic congestion in our staff B lot, please use the north drive and A lot E6 entrance for pick-up and drop-off locations as indicated on the map (click here for map).

Right After Prom Volunteers Needed: Right After Prom (RAP) 2019 is two weeks away and the PVHS PTA RAP Committee needs your help!  To volunteer for the evening, please click here and signup, or contact Kristin Hornbuckle Wehrman at kristinhwehrman@gmail.com / 563-949-7122.

In addition to the activities that night, the RAP committee can also text (not call) you if your son/daughter leaves RAP early so you are informed.  Send an email with your name, your child’s name, and your cell number to kristinhwehrman@gmail.com.  If you haven’t informed the RAP committee by Wednesday (05/01/19) at noon, this option won’t be available.

  • The Quad Cities Big Table season continues April 26-27, and your student is invited to register and attend of the “Big Five” forums: Youth as Change Agents – Facilitated by Jasmine and Teresa Babers, daughter-mother duo and founders of Love, GIRLS Magazine. 2:00-3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Modern Woodmen Park. Service Learning Announcements:

  • Click here for a variety of Service Learning Opportunities provided for this spring.
  • American Red Cross is in need of 175 volunteers to help with Sound the Alarm from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on May 4th.  They are looking for volunteers to help residents check smoke alarms, develop a home fire plan, etc.  You will get put into a team of 3, or sign up as a family to help out!  Each team will have 1 installer, 1 educator and 1 documenter.  Sign up online at http://soundthealarm.org.
  • Run the Rock/America’s Kids Run Volunteers Needed: Run the Rock / America’s Kids Run is a huge event with lots of people and fun activities, including races for kids, a 5K and a 10K on 5/18. They are looking for fun, energetic, and hardworking individuals to help with set up/tear down, ensuring the grounds stay clean, handing out water and snacks, supervising children’s activities, guiding people in the right direction, and most importantly, cheering on the runners.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Laura Atilano at 309-782-1651 or Sarah Ross at 309-782-7544.  This is a public event, so no visitor’s passes will be required.

PVHS Spring Play: Winner of the 2013 Distinguished Play Award from The American Alliance for Theatre and Education, She Kills Monsters employs Dungeons & Dragons to tell a story not only of adventure and fantasy, but of finding one’s self and reality.  Tilly’s freshman high school experience was not a positive one.  Through her eyes, male senior athletes were giant ogres, cheerleaders were evil, and most of the faculty were undead monsters.  She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen will be produced on the PVHS Mainstage on April 26 & 27 at 7:00 p.m.  Avoid the ticket line by purchasing tickets online now at www.pleasval.org/theatre. This script contains mild adult language and themes (www.samuelfrench.com).
