Career Center Announcements:

  • Genesis is offering their annual Genesis Adventures in Nursing Camp again this summer. Stop into the Career Center for an application. Students who have completed 9th grade -12th grade are invited to participate.
  • Business Horizons is a summer opportunity for students not just interested in business but also journalism, design, and creating computer applications; as well as develop leadership skills. Check out the information by clicking here. Scholarships are available.
  • ASM Materials Day Camp will be June 18 – 20, 2019 at Black Hawk College. Registration details will be in the next enews. For more details email Bob Gaster at bgaster5280@gmail.com.
  • Many companies are looking for part-time or seasonal help. Students 16 and older – now is a great time to get those vital workplace skills that businesses need and are missing from today’s prospective employees. I went on a tour to a genetics lab whose Customer Service Vice President said that she gets academically & technically prepared applicants but needs the basic, yet vital, workplace skills. She went on to say that she looks favorably on someone who has worked at Hy-Vee (entry level jobs), especially if it’s for a longer period of time because it shows they’ve developed good workplace skills. Skills like showing up on time, everyday; communication, teamwork, taking the initiative, and problem solving. Summer opportunities are also a great chance to develop both academic/technical skills and workplace skills.
