Incoming 7th Grade Physical and Concussion Forms: Reminder for all incoming 7th graders, if your child plans to participate in a junior high sport next year, they will need a current physical and concussion form signed. Find those forms by clicking here. There are also 2 immunizations required to start the first day of junior high; the Tdap and meningococcal vaccines. You must provide proof of these immunizations to begin the first day of school in August. Don’t wait until the last minute. Make an appointment with your family practitioner today to get these requirements met. Contact your school nurse with any questions.

QCSYE Auditions: The Quad City Symphony Youth Ensembles is ready for auditions for the upcoming season!  The Quad City Symphony Youth Ensembles (QCSYE) program consists of six performance groups (four youth orchestras and two youth choirs) for students in grades two through twelve. Members have the opportunity to perform great orchestral and choral repertoire with the most talented young musicians in the area, and learn from the mentorship of professional musicians from throughout the region. Auditions will be held May 14-30, and there are open positions for every instrument. Consult the Audition Guide for any questions you have about audition requirements and the upcoming season. Hopewell PTA Meeting:  The next Hopewell PTA Meeting is Thursday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m.  The group is looking for input on snow days for the next monthly Superintendent meeting. Most positions for 2019/2020 have been filled but there is still time if you want to volunteer. The May meeting will consist of a vote for next year’s PTA Board (president, vp, secretary, and treasurer).

Elementary Yoga: Hopewell will be hosting an after school YOGA program to run April 11, 18, 25, and May 9. Sessions will run from 3:05 to 3:50 daily. Fees, $10 per student, cover materials and extra funds or donations will be directed to Hopewell Harvest proceeds. Fostering cooperation and compassion, children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration and sense of calmness and relaxation improves.  Click here to register!  There is room for 40 students and names will be drawn via lottery. Sign up ends Monday, April 8th at 3:00 p.m. and students will be notified their participation status via email listed on the sign up form.

World Culture Night will celebrate the diverse cultures found in countries throughout the world as well as in Pleasant View.  It is a free fun-filled event emphasizing understanding, acceptance, empathy and unity.

Riverdale Heights

RDH Glow Disco: Come ‘GET YOUR GLOW ON’ and join the fun at the Riverdale Heights 4th Annual Glow Disco next Friday, April 5th, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Riverdale Heights Gym!  This event is FREE and is open to all K – 6th graders.  The lights will be dimmed and the DJ will be rockin’!  Wear your favorite glow creations and dance!  There will all be glow items for sale as well. *This is not a drop off event!  All students must be accompanied by an adult.*

RoadRunner Running Club: Students in 4th – 6th grade students have an opportunity to participate in the Roadrunners Running Club. The club will meet April 15- May 20, on Tuesdays from 3:15-3:45. Registration for the SPRING session will be open on Monday, April 8th at 8am on the PTA homepage. Students will gain knowledge about the fundamentals of running while building their endurance and increasing their speed. Students will also learn different exercises that will improve their running while having fun socializing with other students.

QC River Bandits Book Buddies: It’s that time of year again, and we’re stepping up to the plate for our annual Quad Cities River Bandits Book Buddies Reading Program.  We’ll led off with Rascal visiting our school on Friday, March 29.  He was on deck in the morning as students arrived, to greet them and get them excited about tagging all the bases in order to score those homerun tickets to Riverdale Heights’ scheduled game!  We’ll be ready to swing for the fences on Friday, May 10, at 6:30 PM!  Teachers have helped students establish the reading expectations in each classroom for this year.  Please have students read, and then sign your name to show their teachers how well the reading is going!  All ticket orders are due to teachers by Friday, April 26.

Announcements

PVJH PTA Meeting: Please join the next PVJH PTA April meeting on Wednesday, April 10th at 1:30 p.m. There will be discussion of the need for new Board members to fill vacancies, the budget, and the lack of volunteers.

PVJH Student Council Fundraiser: PVJH Student Council is doing a supply fundraiser for their community service project and we need the Spartan Nation’s help! We are creating “Busy Bags” for teens like us, ages 10-13, who are patients at the U of I Children’s Hospital in Iowa City. These Busy Bags are designed to give kids a break from their treatments and long hospital stays by providing them with activities, games and small toys! We are collecting donations at the junior high during the week of April 11th-15th. Donation boxes will be located in the library, counseling office, the main office foyer, and cafeteria. We are looking for the following items: Markers, Pens, Colored Pencils, Journals, Coloring Books, Card Games and Puzzles. Please consider making a donation.
