Winter Break:  PVCSD Winter Break is from December 22nd through January 2nd. See you back at school on Thursday, January 3rd!

The Pulse: Read Bridgeview PTA’s December 14th issue of The Pulse here.

Reminder to all PVCSD Families:  The one-way drive on the north side of Pleasant Valley High School is for student drop-off and pick-up only.  Parking and leaving an unattended vehicle on the one-way drive is prohibited.

Holiday Childcare Day: During this busy time of year, PVHS Spartan Assembly wants to help you check the items off of your holiday to-do list this Saturday, December 15th by offering childcare! Sign your children up for the Holiday Childcare Day from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15th at Pleasant Valley High School in the Cafeteria.  This Holiday Childcare day will be hosted by Spartan Assembly to fundraise for their state project and will be a fun filled day of holiday dancing, games, crafts and cookie decorating.  Each child costs $5/hour or $20 for the whole event, parents may register by clicking here.  Please click here to fill out the waiver prior to the event and bring it with your child this Saturday. Drop off and pickup will be outside the N1 or W1 door.

Spartan Safe Snack List Reminder:  With the upcoming holiday season and parties upon us, PVCSD nurses wanted to remind families of the policy in the district with regards to the food items brought into elementary classrooms. Due to the increasing numbers of children with severe food allergies, PVCSD has created one complete list called the Spartan Safe Snack List, which is to be used to determine appropriate snacks for all parties and projects. The items on the list have been verified as safe. Much work has been put into making sure the manufacturing process is safe. New information has been provided since last school year via letters home, website updates, eNews, and teacher newsletters. The approved list is posted on the PV website (click here to view), and is available in the school office.

If a specific item is not on the list, it will be sent home. As you plan for the winter party and gifts, please understand that student safety must come first. Obviously, this may cause some inconveniences and disappointments, but inconveniences and disappointments do not justify a compromise to student safety. Thank you for understanding. Please contact your school nurse if you have questions.

PTA Reflections Ceremony: The judges have spoken! If you participated in the PTA Reflection Program, the Pleasant Valley School District would like to invite you and your family to the Reflection Open House and Ceremony. Doors open for the open house at 6:30 p.m. and ceremony to follow at 7:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley High School on Thursday, January 17, 2019. • Consider the gift of a senior vanity ad in the yearbook for your child! Choose childhood and/or additional senior photos, along with a special message to surprise your student, who will surely treasure the ad for years to come.  The order form for these ads is attached.  If you have any questions, please contact Maureen Dyer, yearbook adviser, at 563.332.5151 or dyermaureen@pleasval.k12.ia.us .

ACT Prep Course: The PV Scholastic Boosters Club has teamed up with Scott Community College to provide an ACT prep course for Pleasant Valley students. Designed for, but not limited to, first-time test-takers, this program will consist of three Sunday classes (February 10th, February 24th, and March 3rd) from 1:00-4:00 p.m., followed by an ACT Test simulation on Sunday, March 24th.  Classes and the simulation will all take place at Pleasant Valley High School.

Registration will begin after winter break at which time another reminder will be sent out to you. Classes will be open first to juniors on Monday, January 7th, then to sophomores on January 14th, and then to freshman and seniors on January 21st. The cost will be $120 per student, with a cap of 60 participants. For those meeting qualifying FRL guidelines, financial assistance is available.

Last year’s PVHS senior class had a composite ACT score of 25.2, the highest score we have had in years as well as 80% of seniors taking the assessment. We feel it is a testament to this program and appreciate the opportunity this course affords our students.

Should you have any questions, please email the PV Scholastic Boosters Club at pvscholasticboosters@gmail.com.
