Children’s Theatre Workshop:  On January 5th from 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Pleasant Valley High School Theatre Department will host a children’s theatre workshop followed by a showcase of the children’s work and performance of A Wrinkle in Time in the Pleasant Valley High School Black Box directed by James Guest.  Kids, come have fun and learn about different aspects of theatre at workshops in acting, musical theatre, dance, stage combat, improvisation, make up, hair, costumes, lighting, and more led by high school students! PV Girls Winter Soccer: Pleasant Valley girls in 3rd-8th grades may register for the winter soccer skills development program to work on technical and tactical skills and apply those fundamentals in fun, small-sided games. Click here for registration details!

Support PV Athletics & Save the Date: The PV Athletic Boosters Annual Cake Auction will be held on Tuesday, February 5th during the basketball games vs. Bettendorf.  The proceeds from this event support ALL sports and ALL athletes.

Children of all abilities are welcome! Camp Kesem: Camp Kesem is a student-run organization that provides support for children who have been affected by a parent’s cancer. This organization offers a free week-long summer camp where these kiddos can just be kids and leave their adult responsibilities behind. Hopewell Variety Show: Are you a musician, dancer, or actor?  Want to tell jokes, juggle, or show off your emcee skills? Now’s your chance to be in the spotlight! Hopewell’s annual Variety Show is scheduled for Friday, January 11th at 6:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley High School Auditorium. Rehearsal will take place at Pleasant Valley High School Auditorium on Friday, January 4th with time slots between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Click here to register via Google Form. Registration closes Monday, December 31 and is limited to the first 45 entries.

Parking Lot Manners:  Please pull your cars as far forward when dropping off children at school – the door they enter does not have to match their classroom. Please do not drive around the cars in line – if everyone moves forward there will be no gaps between the doors. Please do not get out of your car if you are in line – if you or your child needs help getting out of the car then please park in the lot and walk in to the school.  Thank you for your consideration!

Blank Summer Institute Nominees: Congratulations to the following students for being nominated to the prestigious 2019 Blank Summer Institute. The Blank Summer Institute for the Arts & Sciences is a one-week residential summer program held at The University of Iowa for 120 of Iowa’s gifted students who are currently in grades 7 & 8. The Institute provides exceptionally talented students with an intensive and advanced educational experience designed to enhance their intellectual and social growth. The Institute is administered by The Connie Belin & Jacqueline N. Blank International Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development. Each student selected receives a Myron and Jacqueline Blank Summer Scholarship to cover a portion of the Institute’s cost.

Senior Scholarship Applications:  Seniors – Please remember to apply for to the 100+ available Pleasant Valley Educational Foundation $1,000 Scholarships! To access and review the scholarships, click the following link: PVEF Scholarship PageApplications are open until February 15th.

Iowa Seal of Biliteracy: PVHS is proud to announce their participation in the Iowa Seal of Biliteracy!  Students who can demonstrate proficiency in 2 or more world languages will receive the Seal of Biliteracy on their transcripts. Yearbook Purchasing: Have you purchased a yearbook? Yearbooks are $70 and must be pre-ordered. Please send a check made out to PVHS to the main office with “yearbook” in the memo. If you aren’t sure if you’ve already placed your pre-order, you can easily check by logging onto the parent portal, clicking on “fees” and looking for a $70 fee from earlier in the year. You can also call the high school at 563.332.5151 for verification.

Attention parents of seniors:

  • Senior photos for the yearbook are due Monday, March 18th and must be submitted ONLINE  to our yearbook site. Simply go to https://images.jostens.com/411873673. Then, just follow the instructions for uploading your photo.
  • Consider the gift of a senior vanity ad in the yearbook for your child! Choose childhood and/or additional senior photos, along with a special message to surprise your student, who will surely treasure the ad for years to come.  The order form for these ads is attached.  If you have any questions, please contact Maureen Dyer, yearbook adviser, at 563.332.5151 or dyermaureen@pleasval.k12.ia.us .

ACT Prep Course: The PV Scholastic Boosters Club has teamed up with Scott Community College to provide an ACT prep course for Pleasant Valley students. Designed for, but not limited to, first-time test-takers, this program will consist of three Sunday classes (February 10th, February 24th, and March 3rd) from 1:00-4:00 p.m., followed by an ACT Test simulation on Sunday, March 24th.  Classes and the simulation will all take place at Pleasant Valley High School.

Registration will begin after winter break at which time another reminder will be sent out to you. Classes will be open first to juniors on Monday, January 7th, then to sophomores on January 14th, and then to freshman and seniors on January 21st. The cost will be $120 per student, with a cap of 60 participants. For those meeting qualifying FRL guidelines, financial assistance is available.

Last year’s PVHS senior class had a composite ACT score of 25.2, the highest score we have had in years as well as 80% of seniors taking the assessment. We feel it is a testament to this program and appreciate the opportunity this course affords our students. Gilda’s Club QC Teen Essay Contest: The QC Gilda’s Club is now accepting applications for our “It’s Always Something” Teen Essay Contest. The contest is open to Juniors and Seniors who have been affected by cancer (themselves, or someone close to them).
