One year the Alive In Me foundation raised 3,500 toys for the kids in area hospitals.  The drive will run until Friday, December 21 and there will be wrapped boxes in the commons area across from the office in which to place the unwrapped presents. Thank you from the Cody fifth grade classes!

Message from the Cody 5th Grade ELP Students:

Dear Parents of Cody School,

We are going to do a clothing drive for the needy and homeless and we need your help! Send your kids to school with a clothing item that is in good shape for people to wear. We will accept pants, sweaters, coats, mittens\gloves, hats, coats, and socks of any type. Please put your donations in one of the baskets in the commons area. Our goal is to collect at least 400 items which is about 3/4 of the kids in the entire school. Helping us is helping those in need get ready for winter. We ask every student to donate at least 1 item. Our event starts on Wednesday, December 5th and ends on Wednesday, December 19th. We hope you will help.  We thank you for your support!

ELP (Extended Learning Program) Fifth Graders,

Anthony, Sara , and Robert

Hopewell

Announcements

Hopewell PTA Meeting: Please plan on attending the Hopewell Elementary PTA meeting Thursday, December 13 at 9 a.m. in the conference room next to the library.

Hopewell Variety Show: Are you a musician, dancer, or actor?  Want to tell jokes, juggle, or show off your emcee skills? Now’s your chance to be in the spotlight! Hopewell’s annual Variety Show is scheduled for Friday, January 11th at 6:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley High School Auditorium. Rehearsal will take place at Hopewell on Friday, January 4th with time slots between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Click here to register via Google Form. Registration closes Monday, December 31 and is limited to the first 45 entries.

World Culture Night: The Hopewell PTA is excited for the second World Culture Night at Hopewell after last year’s overwhelming success! World Culture Night – held on February 22nd from 6:30-8:00 p.m. – will celebrate the diverse cultures found in countries throughout the world as well as within Hopewell. It will be a fun-filled event emphasizing understanding, acceptance, empathy and unity. To make this event a success, the PTA needs your participation to help showcase a country of which you are familiar. Displays should help students learn about a country’s people and places and may include:

  • Size and location of the country
  • Capital and Country Flag
  • Typical day-to-day lifestyle
  • Cultural traditions
  • Common foods of the country
  • Any interesting facts!

In addition, the PTA would like to showcase dances, games, foods to share, etc. from the different countries. Please encourage your children to help you with your participation in creating the displays, as well as dancing, games and food preparation. Children who attend this event will be given a “Passport” as they come that night so that they can get a “stamp” for each country they visit. At the end of the night, they can show their “stamped” passports and receive a prize. Please contact Maria Baig at mariaomer@yahoo.com if you would like to be a part of this fun event!

Socks of Love” Project: Pleasant View has a wonderful history of caring for others in so many ways.  We have done this over the years as a staff and as a whole school with wonderful support from families. This year, Pleasant View’s Culture and Climate committee, along with the PTA, have decided to once again partner with King’s Harvest in Davenport to help the homeless and less fortunate in our area.  You might remember our successful laundry pod project from last year for King’s Harvest.  This year Pleasant View would like help with collecting items listed below, and assembling “Socks of Love.”  The donated items will be assembled as care packages for those in need.

A brief explanation for this exciting project will take place during Character Circles on Friday, November 30th, and the collection of items will begin on Monday, December 3rd.  All items will be due by December 13th.  (Each teacher will have a box for his/her room to collect items in.)  December 17th will be the assembling day.  Our teachers will sign-up for a time slot to bring their class down to the lobby to help assemble the “Socks of Love”.  These will be handed out at King’s Harvest later in December and through the winter months.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. There will be opportunities for parents volunteer on December 17th.  Additional information about this opportunity will be sent in the near future.
