Robotics Summer Camp: Registration is now open for “NXTreme Explorations” Robotics Camp!  This camp is a summer opportunity for students to explore robotics through the use of LEGO Mindstorms NXT robots. Pleasant Valley students who are entering 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th grade for the 2019-2020 school year are invited to register.  Click here for the online registration form.

Pleasant Valley students entering 9th-12th grades can volunteer to be a Peer Coach for any session of camp for fun or service-learning hours and should register using the same form.

NEW TO CAMP THIS YEAR

  • Harry Potter for students entering 4th through 6th grades.  Campers will program their robots to complete Harry-Potter themed challenges designed by our high school Peer Coaches. It is anticipated that this session of camp will be SIRIUSLY popular, so sign up soon!
  • TETRIX Tenpin for students entering 8th and 9th grades!  Campers will build and program a robotic bowler using the TETRIX MAX building system and ROBOT-C programming software.  This would be a great introduction to the robots being used in Project Lead the Way courses and FIRST Tech Challenge at the high school.  Space is extremely limited for this session of camp, so register early!

Parent-Teacher Conferences Reminder: Parent-Teacher Conferences are February 26th-March 8th! Please use Door N2 to enter building. Thank you!

Book Fair: The PTA will be hosting the spring Book Fair during conferences.  The Book Fair will be open during lunch Monday, Wednesday and Friday the week of 2/25 only.  Book Fair will also be open the following Tuesday and Thursday evenings:

  • Tuesday 2/26 3:30-7:00
  • Thursday 2/28 3:00-8:00
  • Tuesday 3/5 4:00-6:30

NEW THIS YEAR – The fair will be open Tuesday morning 3/4 from 8:00-8:45 am.  Come visit before school!!  The book fair will be held in a new location this year, classroom 48 in the new addition.  Follow the signs!

Online Book Fair: Can’t make it to Book Fair?  Check out the online book fair!  The online fair has an extended selection of titles runs from Feb 18th to March 10th.  Feel free to share the link with anyone who would like to buy your child a book!  http://www.scholastic.com/bf/codyelementaryschool4

Conference Babysitting: The PTA will provide babysitters during Parent – Teacher conferences on the following evenings:

  • Tuesday 2/26 3:30-7:00
  • Thursday 2/28 3:00-8:00
  • Tuesday 3/5 4:00-7:00

Childcare during Conferences: Childcare will be available Tuesday and Thursday February 26 and 28 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. during conferences. This will be held in the conference room to the left of the library.

Book Fair: The Hopewell Book Fair is Tuesday and Thursday February 26 and 28 from 3:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria! There is always a great selection of books for young and old and wonderful book related items (pens, posters, etc). FUN and Educational!

Principal’s Coffee: The Principal’s Coffee is Friday, March 1 at 8:30 a.m. in the cafeteria. This is fun, informal, and kid friendly! There will be coffee and treats and it is a great way to meet Hopewell’s Principal and other parents!

Announcements

Tubing Party CANCELLED: Due to lower than expected responses and predicted rain showers on February 23rd, we will be cancelling Saturday’s tubing party at Snowstar.  Anyone who submitted money for the event can pick it up in the main office.  Thank you for your understanding.

Volunteers Needed:  The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Pleasant View on Tuesday, February 26th and Thursday, February 28th.  The Fair will be open during parent-teacher conferences from 3:00-8:00 PM.  Students will preview the books on February 20th and 21st and will have an opportunity to make purchases from the Book Fair carts on February 22nd.

Volunteers are needed to help make the Book Fair a success.  You can help students compile wish lists; help students purchase books during school hours; setup, run the cash register, locate books for parents and cleanup on our two fair nights.  Please click here to volunteer for any times that you can.  Thank you for your support of the book fair!

Announcements

PTA Social Cancelled: Due to school cancellations and the extension of Winter sports into March, the PTA Social scheduled for February 22nd, 2019 has been cancelled.

Extended Day at PVJH: Starting March 4th, the school day will be extended at the Junior High for an additional 35 minutes due to school cancellations.  Each class period will be 49-50 minutes long and will end at 3:00.  Busses will depart at 3:05 and there will not be an after school advisor on any extended days.  Athletic practices and activities will run from 3:25-5:10 and the after school shuttle bus will leave the Junior High at 5:15 p.m.  A detailed schedule will be sent out on a separate eNews next week that outlines the specific schedules for the weeks of March 4th, March 18th and March 25th.

ISASP Testing: Junior High students will be taking the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) tests in March.  Students will be introduced to this new testing format that consists of reading, language and writing, math and science (8th grade only) by taking practice exams in their classes during the week of February 25th.  Students will be taking the reading test during the week of March 4th and will take the language and writing, science and math tests the week of March 18th.  We encourage you to speak with your student regarding this test, or if  you would like more information, please visit http://iowa.pearsonaccessnext.com/ for an overview of the ISASP test.

Registration Portal: 2019-2020 registration portal closes on Monday, February 25th at 9:00 p.m. Students received registration material the week of February 11th.

NAEP Testing: For students who were selected to take the NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) testing, it is tentatively rescheduled for the morning of Tuesday, February 26th.

Course Selection Reminder: Please remember that the course selection portal closes on Monday, February 25th at 9:00 p.m.  Make sure that you have all course selections entered before the window closes.

Protection Lunch and Learn: The Protection L&L is Wednesday, February 27th, 11:30-1:05 in the Main Stage Theatre. Students interested in law enforcement, firefighter, medic and related careers should consider attending.
