**Girls attending youth night should be at PVHS by 5:30pm**

**Poster signing will take place following varsity girls game**

  • At Assumption: Sophomore boys will play at 4:15pm followed by Varsity boys around 6:00pm
  • Freshman boy/girl games are postponed to a later date TBD

Cody Variety Show:  The Cody Variety Show is at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25th in the Pleasant Valley High School auditorium.  Participants need to arrive at 5:15 p.m.  Snacks will be available for purchase by the drama boosters.  Admission is free so please come support your Cody classmates!

Hopewell Roller Skating Party: Join in the fun at the Hopewell Roller Skating Party Tuesday, January 29th 6:00-8:00 p.m.!  Remember to wear your skate party tee to school on Tuesday!  Need a skate party tee?  Order yours shirt at the Skate Park on Tuesday night!  Spectators are free, $3.00 to skate, $1.50 to rent skates. See you the 29th at Eldridge Skate Park!

Hopewell World Culture Night: Have you ever thought about taking a trip around the world?  Now’s your chance at Hopewell’s 2nd World Culture Night on Friday, February 22 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in Hopewell’s gym.  This event will celebrate some of the many cultures found in Hopewell!  This is a FREE event for families that will showcase over 20 countries.  Kids can pick up their suitcase and passport on their way in to the event.  Bon Voyage!

3rd-4th Grade After School Book Club: Christine Garrow, from the Bettendorf Library, is leading a book club with a maximum group size of 20 3rd-4th grade students! Click here to view and fill out the registration form ASAP, as there are a few spots left for students to join and catch up!

Newspaper Collection:  On January 30th, Pleasant View faculty, staff and students will have their next Character Circle lesson.  The focus of this lesson is to identify what is required for small groups to work together successfully.  One of the main supplies for the learning activity is newspaper.  If you currently receive the newspaper at home, please consider sending it to school with your child so it can be donated for the activity.  Boxes will be in the lobby for newspaper collection.  Thank you for helping with the January Character Circle learning activity.

PLV PTA Minutes: PTA Meeting Minutes are published to the PTA website.  Thanks to those that attended and helped with the Save Around coupon books.

SaveAround Coupon Book Ordering Info:  Earlier this week your child brought home a SaveAround coupon book order form envelope.  Each year the PTA sponsors this fundraiser at Pleasant View.  Your envelope should have had a flyer with additional information. Click here to view the flyer that was in the envelope. As a reminder, the completed order form, or the blank envelope with the unsold sample coupon book needs to be returned to Pleasant View on or before February 1st. Finally, please note one of the bulleted points in the flyer about student safety:

  • Remember, this is NOT meant as a door-to-door sale to strangers.  The safety of your student is our first concern.  Parents, try to sell to relative, neighbors and co-workers.

Variety Show: The Riverdale Heights Variety Show is just around the corner! The Variety Show will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019, 6:00 pm at PVHS. Registration is now open for participants who want to show off their talent! If you son/daughter plan on participating in the 6th grade dance, there will be a separate sign up for that. Family Movie Night: Join Riverdale Heights for Family Movie Night next Friday, Jan. 25th for a big screen viewing of “Smallfoot” in the gym.  Pizza, drinks, and popcorn will be available for purchase beginning at 5:30 p.m.   Movie will start promptly at 6:00 p.m. with free admission!  Put on your pajamas or comfy clothes, bring your blankets & pillows, and kick off your weekend with fun with your Riverdale Heights family!

Walk a Thon Prizes: Prizes will be delivered to children next week. We apologize for the delay, there was a problem with the quality of one of the prizes, so they had to be reordered…but they are on the way!

Pancake Breakfast: New this year! PTA will host a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 9th from 8:00-10:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. More details to follow – mark your calendars!

Costa Rica 2020 Meeting: Due to impending weather this weekend, the Costa Rica informational meeting on Sunday, January 20th has been rescheduled to Wed, Jan 23 @ 7pm and Sun, Jan 27th @ 2pm.  All meetings will be held in Room 151 at the HS. The trip is open to all PVHS students. The Early Bird Discount is good through January 31st, so don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to see such a beautiful country!  Contact Miss Risius (risiusstephanie@pleasval.k12.ia.us) if you cannot attend and want more information.

Incoming 11th Grade Parent Information Night: Help your student get College/Career Ready!  Please join Principal Mike Zimmer for an incoming 11th grade parent information night on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the PVHS Theatre.

Spartan Assembly “Birthday Box” Collections: This January 21st through 25th, Spartan Assembly is collecting donations to make “birthday boxes” for the Bettendorf Food Pantry. Each box goes towards a family in need and is given to them in their child’s birthday month. The goal of this projects is to make an impact on the community through PVHS, and any donations would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be brought to Mrs. Pischke’s room at the high school – room #288.

Items being collected:

  • Icing Tubs
  • Boxed Birthday Cake Mix
  • Paper Plates and Napkins
  • Small Toys
  • Generic, Unsigned Birthday Cards
  • Packages of Candles

Career Center Opportunities

  • Lunch and Learn: The next Lunch & Learn will focus on Visual Arts, January 30th, 11:30-1:05. Students interested in photography, graphic arts, museum curator, artist as well as the business aspect in these areas please sign-up here.
  • ASVAB Test: The next ASVAB test is January 31st, 9:50 – about 11:30, this is an online, at your own pace so end time is tentative. The ASVAB is a free test for those interested in finding out what careers fit their skills, identifying technical skills, practice testing or if interested in the military. Sign-up here.
  • Students interested in becoming a physician? Mrs. Johnson is taking 20 students to the University of Iowa for a Mini Medical School experience February 12th. Students should sign-up here and see Mrs. Johnson for the required paperwork. You are not confirmed until Mrs. Johnson receives the paperwork and the online registration is complete.
