Riverdale Fire Department Training Exercise at PVHS: The Riverdale Fire Department will be conducting a training exercise on Monday, May 20th at 7:00 p.m. at PVHS. This training will involve a ladder truck and the new tower.  This is a TRAINING only, so please do not be alarmed. Thank you!

Flood Assistance: PVCSD students and families have been greatly impacted by the Mississippi River flooding.  In response to this, PV would like to help by accepting donations of cleaning supplies to be distributed directly to the flood victims.  You can help by dropping off your donations to Pleasant Valley High School during school hours (7:30 a.m.– 4 p.m.).  Thank you in advance for supporting our students and families.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance for Families Affected by Flooding: On May 10, 2019, FEMA declared individuals in Scott County eligible for individual assistance.  FEMA determined that this county was adversely affected by the event declared a major disaster by the President in his Declaration of March 23, 2019. Citizens in Scott County are now eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (already designated for public assistance). Applications for DUA must be filed by June 12, 2019 for individuals affected in Scott County. Iowa Dyslexia Survey: The Iowa Department of Education is teaming up with the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital to distribute this survey on behalf of the Iowa Dyslexia Task Force. The task force was established by the Iowa General Assembly in 2018. The survey’s intended audience includes parents of children with reading difficulties, public school administrators, educators, and paraprofessionals; area education agency professionals; and higher education teacher training faculty.  The survey is completely anonymous and voluntary, although participation is strongly encouraged so that the task force can have a comprehensive collection of information about dyslexia response in Iowa. Survey results will be detailed in a report to the Governor and General Assembly in November. This report will be available to the public. Hopewell Harvest Save the Date and Donation Requests: The planning for 2019 Hopewell Harvest has already started!  Please mark your calendars for Friday, Oct 4, 2019!  You won’t want to miss this year’s event…Hopewell Harvest: A Galaxy of Stars!  If you have interest in volunteering with the Hopewell Harvest committee, please contact Marie Feehan and Penny Hillier at hopewellharvest@gmail.com.

The Silent Auction committee is already hard at work collecting donations for Hopewell Harvest and they need your help!  If you would like to donate to the auction, please contact hopewellharvest@gmail.com. The committee will turn anything you would like to donate into a great package.  Items desired include:

  • Monetary donations
  • Gift Cards
  • Tickets to local events
  • Items to go in baskets
  • Empty baskets/containers for that can be used to assemble baskets

Hopewell Harvest is the school’s largest fundraiser of the year and the silent auction is a very important part of the event.  In 2018 Hopewell Harvest brought in over $28,000 for programs such as Visiting Artist/Visiting Author, the Variety Show and Family Fun Nights, as well as funds for classroom supplies and teacher grants.  Thank you for your support!

Senior Immunization Records: The District will no longer retain health and immunization records for students who have graduated. Your student may pick up the immunization record beginning May 1st in the Nurse’s Office from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.    Parents may email akkermary@pleasval.k12.ia.us and ask to have the immunization brought to the main office for a parent to pick up.  Please have immunization records picked up by May 22nd.

Career Center Announcements:

  • Maharishi University of Management has an entrepreneurship event for high school seniors, “Becoming a Big Fish” Contest. National speakers such as Kevin Harrington and Joe Sugarman will be speakers. there will also be a contest for entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas. Information regarding the Rules are posted on the Career Center Bulletin Board.
  • The Quad Cities ASM Chapter  is hosting a free, hands-on 3-Day Materials Science Camp on June 18-20 at Black Hawk College this event is a terrific opportunity to gain knowledge, network with industry professionals and find out the difference between Materials Science and Materials Engineering. Registration is due June 4 – click here.
  • Last call for the Genesis in Nursing Camp being held July 8-12. Students interested in the medical field this is an excellent way to network with health professionals and build knowledge and skills in the medical field. See Mrs. Johnson for an application. A limited number of scholarships are available apply as soon as possible if interested.
  • PV Alumni: Our Veteran’s Kiosk is up and running, be sure to check it out. If you are a veteran, or are a family member of someone who graduated from Albert Gross School, LeClaire High School or Pleasant Valley High School the district wants to highlight you or your family member! Please complete the form by clicking here. Last date to include information for info to be viewed over the summer is May 22nd! After that the kiosk won’t be updated again until September. Iowa Dyslexia Survey: The Iowa Department of Education is teaming up with the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital to distribute this survey on behalf of the Iowa Dyslexia Task Force. The task force was established by the Iowa General Assembly in 2018. The survey’s intended audience includes parents of children with reading difficulties, public school administrators, educators, and paraprofessionals; area education agency professionals; and higher education teacher training faculty.  The survey is completely anonymous and voluntary, although participation is strongly encouraged so that the task force can have a comprehensive collection of information about dyslexia response in Iowa. Survey results will be detailed in a report to the Governor and General Assembly in November. This report will be available to the public.
