The Pleasant Valley Community School District is thrilled to announce that Meg Byrne,Director of Vocal Music, has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2024 GRAMMY Music Educator Award. This prestigious accolade is presented by the GRAMMY Museum® and The Recording Academy® and acknowledges current U.S. music teachers from kindergarten through college in both public and private institutions.
As a finalist, Byrne will receive a $1,000 honorarium and a matching grant for the PVHS Choral Boosters program. The winner of the award will be announced in January. They will then be recognized during GRAMMY® Week 2024, and will receive a $10,000 honorarium and a matching grant for their school's music program.
Meg Byrne has served as the Director of Vocal Music at Pleasant Valley High School for 29 years. She was nominated for the award by 2023 graduate Tommy Glennon, who is now a music double major at St. Olaf College. “I've spent my whole career at Pleasant Valley, and feel this award is very much a recognition of the outstanding music programs and students we have in our district, the support of our community for the arts, and the trust and support between our administrators and our music leaders. It is a district I am very proud to be a part of” Byrne said.
