This spring, 52 Pleasant Valley High School students took on the challenge of the Financial Skills for Smart Living Exam, a completely optional assessment offered by the University of Northern Iowa. We are proud to announce that 47 of those students passed the exam, earning three college elective credits from UNI. This impressive pass rate is 10 percentage points higher than the overall average, which includes other high school students across the state as well as UNI students who took the course.
The exam, which costs $100, was reimbursed for students who passed, thanks to the Iowa Insurance Division's support. Successful students received a $100 Visa gift card, making this an excellent opportunity for free college credit and invaluable financial knowledge. For students facing financial difficulties, UNI also provided funding to cover the exam fee, ensuring that all interested students had the opportunity to participate.
The knowledge gained from this exam is not just a credit on their transcripts but a crucial foundation for smart financial decisions throughout their lives. We are proud of our students for taking advantage of this opportunity and excelling at a higher rate than their peers across the state.
