Pleasant Valley has done it again! For the 7th consecutive year, PV won the Student Hunger Drive, not only keeping the winning streak alive but also surpassing Spartan Assembly's goal of 100,000 lbs of food. This year, PV raised 102,312 lbs of food—equivalent to 265,464 meals—to support families in need throughout our community. PV also claimed victory in the Mission Challenge for the second year in a row.
The Student Hunger Drive is a six-week event where area high schools come together to raise food and funds for the River Bend Food Bank. Since 1985, the drive has provided a platform for young leaders to develop leadership skills, engage in community service, and make a lasting impact on hunger in the region. PV’s Spartan Assembly organized and led the drive, with countless students, staff, and community members joining in to help reach the impressive milestone.
Senior Katelyn Chen, a member of Spartan Assembly, shared the perspective she gained through this initiative: “It is hard to imagine that almost 14 million kids go hungry each year, and that even with all the donations we have collected, it will only make a dent in the plague that is food insecurity as a whole. But through the generosity and kindness of our community, we have learned the true meaning of making a change.”
We are beyond proud of the leadership provided by Spartan Assembly, the dedication shown by our students and the support from the entire Spartan community. Thank you, Spartan Nation, for your generosity and commitment to making a difference!
