In First Grade at Cody, students are showing off their hard work! Pumpkins of all different shapes and sizes line the hallways!
One of the standards for first grade English Language Arts is to identify a main character. Students started the unit by picking out their favorite book. They then identified the main character, setting, problem the main character faced and how they solved it. Each student decorated a pumpkin to look like the main character in the book and wrote up a sentence about why they love the book. The pumpkins and sentences are on display outside their classrooms.
The work inspired another project in fourth grade! Fourth grade students will choose one of the first graders’ favorite books and create a video movie trailer for it. They’ll share the work with the first graders to see if they can figure out which trailer describes which book!
