The first snow of the year is predicted for tomorrow, Tuesday, November 15, 2022. We wanted to remind you how we make the decision to cancel, delay or release early.
Why We Delay, Cancel or Dismiss Early:
Weather conditions (snow, ice, fog or other natural occurrences) may vary around the district and can change quickly, so we make decisions based on various sources:
- We drive the roads to check conditions on paved and unpaved roads
- Direct Conversations with:
- The National Weather Service
- Local School Districts
- Durham School Bus Services
- District Operations Team to determine parking lot clearing times
- Scott County and the City of Bettendorf regarding road plow times
Note on Wind Chill - we will delay or close school for a WARNING, not an advisory. If the warning is set to expire in the first couple hours of the school day, we will delay. If it is longer into the morning, we may cancel.
Weather Notifications:
Families will be notified of a delay, early release, or cancellation in the following ways:
- Phone Call
- Text Message
- Email from Enews@pleasval.org
- Pleasant Valley-branded social media (facebook and Twitter)
- Pleasant Valley website
- Local media, including radio, websites, and television
Please take the time now to check your contact information in the School Messenger system. See instructions here. This is the information we use to contact you during inclement weather days. If you need to change your contact information, please do so through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal or by contacting your building administrative assistant.
Making Up a Canceled School Day:
If a day of school is canceled, we need to make it up. If there is a weather cancellation before Friday, February 10, 2023, we will make up that day on Friday, February 17, 2023. We would operate an early dismissal schedule that day. This will allow for the missed learning day to be made up and still allow for the planned teacher Professional Development scheduled that afternoon.
If more than one inclement weather day occurs on or before February 10th or after February 10th, the day(s) will be added to the end of the school year beginning with Friday, June 2, 2023.
Elementary Outdoor Recess:
Students will have outdoor recess when the temperature is 0 degrees or above. If the temperature (windchill included) is less than 0 degrees, students will stay inside for recess. Please have your children dress for the weather (coats, gloves or mittens, hats, and boots if necessary).
